The Academy started with a founding committee in 1996, and in September 1997 opened its doors for the first time to children and young students from the district to study music. In 1998 the Palestinian Ministry of Culture has officially approved the organization. Quickly, the community embarked this young organization, and supported it to take its role in the Palestinian Arab society to serve it, and to assist as it strides toward a brighter future, and a new generation richer with culture. During the years 1997-2003 the Academy participated in several concerts and music workshops in the country and internationally, and still continues to do so. In 2001, a branch of the Academy was established as the Palestinian Association of Frederic Chopin. It promoted activities inside Palestine as to promote the understanding and legacy of Frederic Chopin's music. In its belief that strengthening the civil society for the Palestinian people is a necessity in the building of free democratic society, BAM realized the importance of strengthening relations with other national cultural and civil society organization and not only international, and therefore developed closer ties with local Palestinian NGO's such as the Al-Quds University faculty of Arts, The Arab Women's Union, The Ihsan Arab Orthodox Society and others In 2006 The Academy acquired another building which is an old Arab house of three floors in Beit Jala, few kilometers from Bethlehem, where it became the second campus there.
